Cool People + Grand Canyon = Fun Fun Times

mikelMy brother Mikel was the first person to visit Chris and I while we lived in Milwaukee, so it was appropriate that he be the one who first met us out on the road. He has been the perfect guest – he is so helpful and just a tad more mechanically inclined than Chris or I. Plus, he’s so adaptable that he doesn’t mind that we practice being host with him in our confined space. He’s spent about all of March hanging out with us and he’s gotten the most realistic picture of what it means to live on the road.

Aside from a familial visitor, we had the rare opportunity to reunite with our lovely housemates from Milwaukee: Amy (now living in Maine and working in Arizona for the next 6 weeks) and Jenny (taking advantage of this time to meet up with Amy while Chris and I are in the neighborhood). After a girl’s night hitting up the rodeo bars in Cave Creek, we met up with the boys in Prescott and spent a very loooong Saturday driving up to the south rim of the Grand Canyon for a little bit of exercise and a stunning view. I think we accomplished everything we wanted to that day. It was a great chance to catch up since we all went separate ways last fall.

Hiking the Rim Trail

Anyway, we were a unique group of young people looking for inspiration and we found it. The Grand Canyon was stunning – and larger than you could EVER have expected. We spent a few afternoon hours hiking along about 2 miles of the Rim Trail right on the edge of the canyon (we had to allot for plenty of “ooh-and-ahh” time). And, believe it or not, it was hardly a comprehensive Grand Canyon experience. For a more comprehensive experience, I would recommend hitting up the Canyon a little later in the year – May-June should be perfect. For us, it was enough to mark it off of our bucket list.

And what would a memory-making hike be without a dance slide show. And… GO!
